She is particularly known for her portrayals of emotionally troubled women in both independent and Hollywoodfilms, and has received many accolades, including the 2014 Academy Award for Best Actress. After studying theatre at Boston University, Moore began her career with a series of television roles. Her father, from Burlington, New Jersey, has German, Irish, Welsh, German-Jewish, and English ancestry.She made her entrance into the big screen with 1990’s Tales from the Darkside: The Movie (1990), where she played the victim of a mummy.
