Sutapa Sikdar is an Indian film and dialogue writer. She is the wife of one of the finest actors in Indian cinema, Irrfan Khan.Sutapa was born in an Assamese Hindu family in Delhi. For her education, she had her schooling from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Andrews Ganj, New Delhi.In the year 1984, she joined the prestigous National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi and graduated in 1987. She studied acting but was also keen on becoming a story and screenplay writer, which she turned out to be later.On February 23rd, 1995, Sutapa married Irrfan Khan. The marriage was just a simple court marriage. Irfan was her fellow graduate from National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi in the year 1987. They fell in love during their course.In their family, they also have two sons, Babil Khan and Ayaan Khan. Currently, she lives with her husband and two sons at Aksa Beach in Mumbai. Since both Irrfan and Sutapa were looking for an employment after their graduation, they decided not to marry until they get to do some work. They worked together from 1993 to 1997 for TV shows.One of the most popular among the shows was ‘Banegi Apni Baat’ in which Irrfan was one of the actors, and Sutapa was the screenplay writer. Irrfan was so particular about the storyline and screenplay that he made her rewrite about 11 episodes of the show.In 1996, she wrote the dialogues for an Indian musical drama film ‘Khamoshi: The Musical’, which starred Nana Patekar, Manisha Koirala, Salman Khan, Seema Biswas and Helen. This film marked Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s directorial debut. In 2003, she wrote the dialogues for Padam Kumar’s ‘Supari’ and in 2005 for Sanjay Dutt starrer, ‘Shabd’. She also wrote the dialogues for Sujoy Ghosh’s super hit film ‘Kahaani’ which was released in 2012. And now she is producer of new movie Qarib Qarib Singlle which is released on Friday 10 November 2017.
