She married producer Sajid Nadiadwala in a secret wedding. It is believed that this wedding took a grave toll on the actress as she didn’t want to keep her wedding a secret. She had changed her name to Sana Nadiadwala and accepted Islam upon marrying producer Sajid Nadiadwala.
Sajid Nadiadwala and Divya Bharati were having a troubled marriage and some reports suggest that she was pregnant at the time of her death. She had consumed some alcohol that night and those who were present on that fateful night recollect that Divya Bharati was pushed from the balcony wall.
Designer Neeta Lulla who was present with Divya Bharti recalls that Divya Bharti was so depressed about her marriage that she lost balance from the terrace.Another version says that Divya Bharti was extremely unhappy with the growing closeness of her husband, Sajid Nadiadwala with the underworld and this also had a role in her death. Mumbai Police closed the case due to lack of sufficient evidence.
Divya Bharti father and brother blamed Sajid Nadiadwala for her death and were inconsolable at the hospital. Sajid Nadiadwala was not present at the hospital and when he came he saw his beautiful wife in black dress lying on the hospital bed. It was reported that he suffered a minor attack after seeing a dead Divya Bharti.
