Sameer was born and brought up in Mumbai. He completed his schooling from St. Paul’s high school in Mumbai and there after he pursued his higher education. But before he could complete his graduation , he discovered his passion for films and sought opportunities in the industry to give a start to his career. He decided to begin his career as an assistant director to understand the nuances of film making. Sameer landed up as the assistant director of renowned director Sanjay Leela Bansali for the films Raam Leela and Bajirao Mastani. Previously he had played a small role in the Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol starrer film Aysha.
